Anonymous by design

Political views are personal. Naija Compass is built so that your answers can never be shared with your name, because we never have your name.

How your tracker works without knowing who you are

When you first save a result, your browser is given a random code. It stays on your device in a secure cookie. Our database only keeps a one-way scrambled (hashed) form of that code, so even someone with full access to the database cannot tell which device or person a result came from. Your recovery code lets you open your tracker on another device. Keep it private: anyone who has it can see your results.

How results are shared

Individual results are never published or shared, with or without a name. The Insights page, and any analysis or articles drawn from Naija Compass, only use anonymised figures combined across many people. Any group with fewer than 20 people is left out so nobody can be singled out.

For research and articles, Shedfactory may analyse an anonymised copy of the data. It contains no names, contacts or device codes, only answers, scores, dates and the optional profile answers above. We never ask which party you support or who you voted for.
